The trek involves gradual to steep ascents that even amateurs can cover. And since the Mcleodganj to Triund distance is not much, it is not very exhausting either. The first 5 km of the Triund trek are simple and not very undulating. Thereon, the Triund trek route gets steep and requires a sturdy walk. This stretch is popularly known as 22 curves because of the 22 sharp curves en route.

However, if you are trekking during winters, the trek becomes slightly difficult due to the presence of snow on the otherwise firm and well-defined path.

Triund Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Dharamshala or Mcleodganj to Triund trek

From Dharamshala, it will take about 4 hours. So, it is advisable to start after breakfast. The ascent from Bhagsu Nag takes you through oak and rhododendron forests. Have lunch at the few eateries on the way.

On reaching Triund, pitch in a camp or check in at the Forest Rest House (can be booked at Dharamshala). Enjoy the surreal view of Dhauladhar Ranges and Kangra valley. Post sunset, enjoy bonfire and dinner under the starlit sky.

Day 2: Ascent to Khabrotu and descent to the Bhagsu village

Start after breakfast and move upslope to Khabrotu. This is an awesome view point that offers breath-taking view of Laka Glacier and snow-capped peaks of Dhauladhar. Start descending thereafter. You can have lunch on the way. Take a different Triund trek route as you walk downhill until you reach the Bhagsu village. Enjoy the beauty of Bhagsu waterfallenroute. The Triund trek ends at Bhagsu village.

Tips for the Triund Trek

• Go for this trek with someone who has done it before. An authorised Triund Trek guide will be better.

• There are a few guesthouses in the Gallu Devi Temple area. If you want, you can even take a halt there before going for the climb.

• Though we recommend you to camp at Triund, there’s a guest house available too. It is run by the Forest Department and can be booked there directly or at Dharamshala.
