Bathu temples can only be seen during summers as the water-level goes down in Pong Dam. Let's start the Photo Journey to Bathu Temples, with some interesting information about the place...

Himachal Pradesh is the land of Gods and Goddess, thus called “Dev-Bhoomi”. It is the place of diverse cultures, land of fare and festivals, land of peace and joy, a place where you can see nature at its best. Himachal Pradesh is blessed with the wonderful richness of wild life which any naturalist would love to track . It is one of the best known locations to spend your holidays and have a lifetime of a experience.

The state has a diverse and hidden history from the time of Pandwas which is hidden in small corners of Himachal Pradesh. One such hidden temple with a History are Bathu temples in the Kangra region of Himachal Pradesh.

We at Notonmap , are always on a hunt to find those rustic and unveiled paradise on earth that are hidden in such small corners of our country.

Therefore, this time we managed to find a unique temple near Pong Dam in Himachal Pradesh which remains immersed in water for almost eight months of the year and is  only  seen in the year four months (from March to June).

The rest of the time the temple remains submerged in water. The temple is made of very strong stone and even after 30 years of being submerged in water it is standing tall and beautiful. The big Pillar next to these temples is the only visible thing you get to see when the Pong Dam Lake is very much in water as all the temples are submerged in the water.

As the temple is in the midst of Pong Dam, one has to take a boat to reach the shrine. Around the temple is a place like an island that is named Rensar. The temples are three kilometer away from Dhameta, a small town in Kangra.

After seeing this wonder, you will be awestruck at the beauty of the temples and mystery surrounding it. Despite nothing concrete is known about the origin of the temples yet everyone just remains amazes to see its sheer beauty and strength of survival.

On one side you have a vast grassland area devoid of any plantation. On the other side you have a water body so huge that seems to have no end. It is that part of earth where you can listen to your own heartbeat, your own self, where you will reunite with self; you will be enchanted and feel happy about finding a place so serene. The light breeze will ruffle your hair and kisses your face and will blow a new freshness into you. The straight yet mild sunlight falling on the blue water of the lake makes the sight even more enticing.

You can spend few hours here, while taking a ride on the boat and get occupied by the sheer beauty of the lake which is still pure and undisturbed. It will also give you a similar sight of Pangoong Tso Lake of Ladakh. Take as many as pictures to show it to your friends when you return back, or just sit and feel the beauty and power of silence . The Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.

Though all the wetlands in the state are abode to migratory birds in winter but the Pong Dam wetland in Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh is the largest habitat of migratory birds in Himachal Pradesh. Across the pong Dam there are over 200 species of birds which includes seven species of pheasants. Watching the flights of birds over the lake, ruffling with the light breeze across the sky is a treat to eyes.

How to Reach-

The temples can be approached from two sides, water-route from Nagrota Surian notwithstanding because you need special permission for that. One approach is via Talwara over the Pong Dam. The second approach is via Pathankot-Jassur-Jawali.
